Where is Achill Bikes located?

We are located in Dooagh, at the rear of Teach Cruachán B&B, Eircode F28 R2P7.

How far is Achill Bikes from the Greenway?

We are 20km from the Greenway, which is why we only offer bike hire on Achill Island.

What are your opening hours?

We’re open from 10:00am to 7:00pm, but please ring 087 2437686 before arrival to be sure there will be someone here to serve you, especially off-season (September to April).

What kind of bicycles do you have?

We have EU-manufactured electric bikes, hybrid touring bikes, superior touring bikes, and youth-sized and child-sized mountain bikes.

How much does it cost?

Daily hire prices: Electric bike €55-€60, Superior hybrid €30, Standard hybrid €25, Youth €20, Child bike, tag-along or trailer €15, Child seat €10.

Do you do half-day hire?

Yes, if you hire bikes after 2:00pm the price for eBikes is reduced by €10 and standard bikes are reduced by €5.

What’s included in the price?

Every bicycle rental includes a helmet and a high-visibility vest.

 
Do you take credit cards?

Yes, we accept credit and debit cards.

How can I book bicycles?

The best way to book and secure the bikes you want is to do it online here. You can also phone +353 87 2437686 if you need more info before booking.

What bikes or equipment do you have for young children?

For children we have:

  • Youth and child-sized mountain bikes;
  • Tag-alongs - a half-bike with a rear wheel, handlebars, seat and pedals, attached to the seat post of the adult bicycle. For 6yrs-8yrs who can balance on the seat while pedalling;
  • Trailers - for 12mo+ whose neck is strong enough to support their own head while wearing a lightweight helmet; and
  • Child seat that is fixed behind, or in front of, the cyclist on our adult bicycle.
Can I hire a child’s trailer or accessory for my own bike?

No, for insurance reasons our child accessories can only be attached to Achill Bikes’ bicycles.

How far will an Electric Bicycle go on a single charge?

Depending on the terrain and the level of assistance you choose, our German and Dutch manufactured eBikes should give you at least 70km on a single charge. That’s enough to get you around Loop 3 of the Achill Cycle Hub if you have the stamina!

Do you provide bikes for larger groups?

Yes, we have a good supply of standard hybrid bikes. Electric bikes numbers are limited, so they should be booked in advance. We also offer a group discount.

Do you have family rates?

We know that families come in all sizes, so every booking that includes at least one adult bicycle and one child/youth bicycle will receive a 5% discount.

Is there parking available at Achill Bikes?

Yes, there is plenty of parking at the rear of Teach Cruachán B&B for vehicles of all sizes. Please don’t park at the front of the B&B as those spaces are reserved for residents only.

Can I rent bicycles for more than one day?

Yes, we offer multi-day rates for standard hybrid bikes. See here for prices.

Do you offer advice on the best route for my ability/experience?

Yes, we’ll give you a printed map showing the cycle routes, and we’ll tell you about the best places to stop for refreshments. There are also interactive maps of the routes on https://www.achillbikes.com/cycle-routes/ that show all the points of interest around each of the three Cycle Hub loops.

Will you deliver bicycles to our accommodation?

Yes, a delivery and collection service is available for multi-day hire only, priced from €10 to €15 per bike, depending on location.

Are there any off-road bicycle routes on Achill Island?

There are no marked off-road routes, but traffic is mostly light on Achill, especially on the local roads that spur off the main R319. The main road can be moderately busy during high season in July and August. Most drivers in Achill are bike aware, but you do need to take care when sharing the road.

Do you provide breakdown assistance?

Yes, if you have a puncture or a breakdown anywhere on the island of Achill we will bring you a replacement bicycle so you can continue your cycle with as little disruption as possible. Please keep in mind you can avoid most mechanical problems by selecting gears gradually and progressively, allowing each gear to engage properly before selecting another. Also, take care when parking your bikes not to damage derailleurs, pedals, etc.

Do you provide passenger transport?

No, but we can give up to two passengers a lift in our bikes van if necessary.

What happens if I book a bike and the weather turns out to be too bad to cycle?

If you have booked and paid for a bike and the weather is too wet or windy to cycle we will cancel your reservation and refund your payment in full. If you’ve booked over the phone just ring us to cancel.

Can I take bicycles away in my own car, van, or on my bicycle carrier?

No, bicycles must not be transported in or on your vehicles. They must be cycled away from and cycled back to our HQ in Dooagh. We can deliver and collect bicycles to/from your accommodation for multi-day hires (an additional fee applies).
